I started watching Haikyuu since the summer of 2018, after seeing the Haikyuu Nendoroid figures in a friend’s display shelf. “It’s a really good anime,” she said. I decided to give it a try. And became hooked ever since – both the anime, and the real volleyball.

I started playing volleyball then at the local club at the age of 29/30. Having never touched volleyball again ever since graduating from high school, I was the eldest and one of the amateur players in our lowest-level adults team. I was playing / training / playing competitions 2-3 times a week, every week for one full year. Along the way, I was blessed with numerous positive encounters and friends in a new town, and had a blast. Also, I was surprised to discover that I could jump. (Not Hinata level, but more than I expected.)

When I first got my pair of cheaper kneepads, I promised myself that I’d change them to better ones if I were still actively playing if they wore out. After 9 months, I fulfilled my promise.

I’m sooooo happy that Haikyuu introduced me to a sport which I would never have tried out. From its fantastic storytelling skills and character development, I fully immersed myself in the charm of volleyball. So many fantastic encounters and friendships were enabled because of it. I signed up for the continuation of next year’s volleyball training and club. The playing goes on.

At the same time, I wish to write this guide to help other Haikyuu fans to visit the Haikyuu sanctuary. Hope that you will soon have the chance to have this phenomenal experience of seeing the scenery for real, and befriending the kind folks living there and other fans.

Wish you all the best and have fantastic visit(s) / volleyball days!
